Journal Overview
Journal of Human Intelligence and Artificial Innovation (JHIAI) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing research at the intersection of human intelligence and artificial intelligence. The journal aims to provide a platform for innovative studies that explore how human cognition and artificial systems interact, collaborate, and co-evolve in various domains. JHIAI publishes high-quality original research, systematic reviews, and scholarly articles that contribute to both theoretical and practical developments in intelligent systems. The journal emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, integrating computer science, cognitive science, data science, and social perspectives to better understand the role of AI in enhancing human capabilities. The scope of the journal includes emerging topics such as human-centered artificial intelligence, human–AI interaction, and hybrid intelligence systems, where collaboration between humans and intelligent machines becomes increasingly essential in solving complex problems. JHIAI applies a rigorous double-blind peer-review process to ensure the quality, integrity, and academic contribution of all published articles.
Rigorous Peer Review
Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review by a minimum of two independent domain experts.
Global Open Access
All articles are permanently freely accessible worldwide under CC BY 4.0 — no paywalls, no embargos.
Rapid Turnaround
Initial editorial decision within 5 business days; first peer-review decision typically within 28–35 days.
Research Integrity
Full compliance with COPE, ICMJE, and CONSORT guidelines. AI disclosure and data availability statements required.
Primary Keywords & Topics
Journal of Human Intelligence and Artificial Innovation publishes original research, systematic reviews, and scholarly reports that contribute to the development of human-centered and intelligent technologies. Manuscripts falling under primary areas receive prioritized handling by specialist handling editors.
Publication Frequency
The journal publishes two issues per year on a biannual schedule. Articles accepted ahead of the scheduled issue are made available online on a rolling basis through our Articles in Press feature — ensuring no delay between acceptance and accessibility.
Language Policy
This is an English-language journal. All manuscripts must be submitted and published in standard English, applied consistently throughout the manuscript. The journal encourages submissions from non-native English speakers.
Submission Language
All manuscripts must be written in English. Authors may choose American or British English conventions, but must be consistent throughout the full text, including abstracts, figure captions, and supplementary files.
Non-Native Speakers
Manuscripts from non-native English speakers are warmly welcomed. Editors evaluate scientific merit, not language proficiency. Authors are encouraged to use a professional editing service prior to submission to improve clarity.
Language Editing Support
Professional language editing is recommended — but not required — before first submission. Authors are required to correct language issues identified during peer review before acceptance.
Translated Abstracts
Authors may optionally include a translated abstract (up to 250 words) in their native language as supplementary material. This does not replace the English abstract, which is mandatory for all submissions.
Types of Published Articles
The journal publishes six categories of peer-reviewed content. Each type has specific requirements for structure, length, and scope. Authors should select the most appropriate category before submission.
Research Articles
Full-length empirical studies reporting novel findings. Must include Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion sections. Research articles represent the primary content type and undergo full double-blind peer review by a minimum of two independent experts.
Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analyses
Comprehensive, structured reviews of existing literature on a defined research question. Must follow PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews or MOOSE guidelines for meta-analyses. Unsolicited review submissions are accepted.
Short Communications
Concise reports of novel, time-sensitive findings, negative results with scientific value, or methodological notes. Undergo the same rigorous peer review as full articles but designed for rapid dissemination. Particularly suited for replication studies and null results.
Methods & Protocols
Detailed descriptions of new experimental methods, computational pipelines, or laboratory protocols with broad applicability. Must include sufficient detail for reproducibility. Protocol papers should include validation data demonstrating the method's utility and reliability.
Perspectives & Commentaries
Opinion-based pieces offering expert analysis, forward-looking perspectives, or critical commentary on a recently published study or emerging trend. Authors are typically invited, but unsolicited perspectives on landmark papers are considered. Must be grounded in published evidence.
Editorials
Written exclusively by members of the editorial board or by invited guest editors of special issues. Editorials introduce thematic issues, reflect on milestone developments in the field, or provide policy-relevant commentary on reproducibility, open science, and research integrity.
Article Processing Charges
As a fully open-access journal, this journal operates on an Article Processing Charge (APC) model. Authors pay a one-time fee upon acceptance — there are no submission fees. APCs are used solely to cover editorial operations, production, and long-term digital preservation.
- Permanent open access (CC BY 4.0)
- Professional XML & HTML formatting
- High-resolution figure processing
- CrossRef DOI assignment at publication
- Long-term digital preservation (Portico)
Waiver & Discount Policy
Authors from low- and lower-middle-income countries (World Bank classification) are eligible for full or partial APC waivers. Waiver requests are reviewed independently from peer review and have no influence on editorial decisions.
Editorial Independence
APCs are only charged after a manuscript is accepted on scientific merit. Editorial decisions are made entirely independently of commercial considerations. Paying an APC does not guarantee acceptance.
Institutional Agreements
Authors at member institutions with an institutional agreement may be eligible for discounted APCs. Contact the editorial office to check eligibility before submission.
